🎧 DJ mode
13 hit pads, skip keys, build and drop, cue, tap tempo, crowd lines and DJ controllers.
DJ mode puts the lights in your hands. The music show keeps running underneath, and you add moves on top, the way a lighting tech runs a club. Tap DJ on the side rail, in the Perform group.
Top to bottom, the page goes: Build & drop, the hit pads with the skip keys, tap tempo, cue the next look, crowd lines and the DJ controller.
Charge the drop
Press and hold Charge the drop. The wall winds up over about 8 seconds, flickering faster and turning white-hot in your look's colours. The key fills up with a seconds counter so you can time it, and reads FULLY CHARGED when it's maxed out. Let go and it drops. Slide your finger off the key to cancel.
Pick a build style from the row under the key (each phone or tablet remembers its own pick):
- Rise: light climbs from the floor with a soft rainbow sweep (the classic).
- Close in: a ring of light squeezes in from the edges to the middle.
- Burst out: a glowing core grows from the middle out to the edges.
- Spin: a radar sweep that speeds up and grows more arms.
- Rainbow: a full, bright rainbow wash that gets faster.
- Zipper: two bars race in from the sides and meet in the middle.
- Heartbeat: a heart in the middle thumps faster and faster.
- Auto: a different style every time.
Build, blackout, drop PRO
Turn on Blackout before drop, the small switch right under Charge the drop. Now let go of the build and every light goes pitch black and stays black, for as long as your track holds its breath. The big key turns black and reads TAP TO DROP: tap it the moment the bass hits. The Blackout pad works the same way any time: blackout, then Drop. If nobody taps within 30 seconds the show comes back on by itself.
Hit pads
Thirteen big pads. Out of the box a pad fires the instant your finger touches it. Tap ⚡ Instant at the top of the card to switch to 🥁 Snap to beat: then every pad waits for the next beat, so even a late tap lands right on time.
- 💥 Drop: a full drop move, with a new effect and a color change.
- ⚡ Strobe: four beats of white strobe.
- ⚪ Flash: one big white flash.
- 🔥 Fire burst and 🎉 Confetti: a blast over the show for a couple of seconds.
- ⬛ Blackout: holds the wall dark until you tap it again. Great right before a drop.
- Sweep: a bright bar wipes across the wall.
- Shockwave: a ring blasts out from the middle.
- Color bomb: a flood of colour bursts from the centre.
- Lightning: a forked bolt cracks down the wall.
- 3-2-1: a big countdown on the beat, then a burst.
- Heartbeat: a heart thumps twice in the middle.
- Star: a star spins out from the middle in a shower of sparkles.
The new pads follow the music's beat and the look's colours.
Skip a look or an effect
Right under the pads are four skip keys:
- ◀ Look and ▶ Next look step back or forward through the looks.
- ◀ Effect and ▶ Next effect do the same for the effect on the wall right now.
A live Look and Effect readout underneath shows the names, so you always know what's playing without looking up at the wall. Went one too far? Tap ◀ to step straight back.
Tap tempo
Room too loud, or a song with no clear kick? Tap TAP four times or more on the beat and the whole show locks to your tapping. Back to automatic tempo hands the beat back to the music.
Cue the next look
Tap a look in Cue the next look. It waits, then comes in on the next drop, yours or the music's. Tap it again to clear the cue.
Crowd lines
Big words flashed across the wall for three seconds: HANDS UP, JUMP, MAKE SOME NOISE and more. Type your own, like your DJ name; GlowBop keeps your last six.
DJ controllers
- Plug a USB DJ controller or MIDI pad into the laptop that runs GlowBop. GlowBop finds it in a couple of seconds.
- Tap Controllers & Sync on the DJ page (it opens the panel in SETUP). If GlowBop knows your controller, it offers a ready-made layout.
- Or teach it by hand: long-press (or right-click) any pad, Build or Tap, then hit the button on your controller.
♫ Back to music under the wall clears a blackout, tap tempo or a cued look.
